How to save a rainy day with friendly neighbours

A handful of men and women, talking and sharing snacks while seated and spread over different levels of a stairwell.

Weather messes with the best of intentions. You’ve arranged for a day outside, and then the skies open. See how you can adapt with quick and easy tweaks, and still create a sunny moment.

Shared space, shared time

If you don’t have room at home (or time to arrange it for guests), why not borrow a bit of communal space? Squeeze in a few seats and suddenly you’re all set for a cosy gathering in the stairwell.

Lightning-fast mood lighting

A shared staircase may be a bit barren to begin with – which makes it all the more easy to improve it. Some lighting chains plus clothes pegs, and you’ll transform the atmosphere in a flash.

Base camp for kids

Children may have a harder time accepting cancelled outdoor time. To ease their burden, set up a cosy camp with tent, textiles and low-tempo activities. (Also, they can choose their level of involvement with the grown-ups up the stairs.)
