How to use the FÖRNUFTIG air purifier

Did you know that the air you breathe indoors can be more polluted than the air on the street outside? The new FÖRNUFTIG air purifier from IKEA makes it easy to improve your indoor air at an affordable price. Learn more about how to use an air purifier and how it can improve your health and well-being below.

Why would I need to purify air indoors?

When you think about air pollution, you usually associate it with poor air that happens outside, but it occurs in our homes too. Particles released from frying food, using a fireplace, or from outdoor air pollution seeping inside, as well as various gaseous pollutants such as formaldehyde, which can be found in things like cleaning/household products and various fabrics and materials in your home, are just some of the common causes of polluted indoor air. As we spend more and more time at home, indoor air quality is essential to our health and well-being.

How does the FÖRNUFTIG air purifier work?

The FÖRNUFTIG air purifier cleans the air of pollutants like odors, dust, smoke, pollen and chemicals using particle and/or gas filters. This improves indoor air quality and makes the home a safer and healthier place for you and your loved ones.

How should I use the FÖRNUFTIG air purifier?

One FÖRNUFTIG air purifier can purify the air in an area of up to 100 square feet, and has three different working modes (low to high, 1-3) to suit various needs. Set the air purifier to sleep mode (1, the lowest mode) during the night so you can sleep undisturbed while the air in your bedroom is purified.

Where is the best place to put the FÖRNUFTIG air purifier?

The FÖRNUFTIG air purifier is easy to place in your home, just ensure that the flow of air is not blocked by other objects and that no one directly faces the air outlet to avoid uncomfortable drafts. You can wall-mount it vertically or horizontally to save space, or use with the included stand on a table or the floor. It also has a removable handle so you can easily carry it from room to room.

What about the FÖRNUFTIG air purifier’s filters?

All FÖRNUFTIG air purifiers contain a pre-filter at the front made of textile that captures large particles like dust and hair and can be cleaned with a vacuum. Inside there is a replaceable filter for particle removal. It's a HEPA 12 filter that absorbs approximately 99.95 per cent of smaller airborne particles such as dust and pollen down to PM2.5 (particle size 2.5um). In addition to this you can add a replaceable filter for gas cleaning, which is a carbon filter that targets gaseous pollutants like formaldehyde from cleaning products and fabrics in the home, and also reduces unpleasant odors from cooking, smoke and other VOCs. The filter for particle removal and the filter for gas cleaning can’t be cleaned, they can only be replaced.

What about replacing the filters?

The HEPA 12 filter for particle removal and the filter for gas cleaning need to be checked regularly, and it is recommended that they are replaced at least every six months. However, every home is different. Check the filter regularly to see if it's dirty. An LED indicator also illuminates when you need to check the filters and possibly replace them. To open the unit, simply pull the pull-tag on the right side and loosen the pre-filter. Remove the pre-filter to access the particle and/or gas filter behind for replacement.
